This beam was purchased from Force 12 just as the company was being sold. Mine was the 3rd beam sold by the new owner, and at the time they were still working out the bugs of construction. Since that time I have heard that they have streamlined everything and it all flows smoothly. But the service I received from them has been great.

Now, on to the Beam itself. It is a 5 band (20-10) beam using one coax feedline. Boom length is 18'. All elements are insulated from the boom but all are well constructed. The elements come with holes drilled in them for rivits, and the rivits do the job of keeping the antenna together in all types of weather. The only problem I discovered was when I took it down for maintenance after 7 years in the air. A connection from the balun to the fed element had become intermittent... due to a lack on my part to tightly screw on the nuts holding the wire. But it took 5 years for that to show up!

As far as performance, I have included some SWR charts below. They were made when the beam was new, but the 17 meter band has improved a little since then due to a little tweaking on my part. It has a wide apparent beamwidth, and I did not have to have the beam pointed precisely at the other station. (Which was a benefit for me!) Front to Back ratio varied from about 7 to an apparent 15 dB on my S-meter, depending upon the frequency and band conditions.

I am probably going to sell the beam now that I have it down -- not because I do not like it, but because I am getting too weak and old to fool with beams weighing 56 pounds. I will probably go with a HEX beam at less than half the weight of this, and not a lot of loss of gain or directivity. It's not what I want to do, but it is simply an admission of my age and strength.
